The overall flood situation in Assam remained critical with one more person losing his life in the deluge that has affected over 24 lakh people in 24 districts of the State.
The fatality has been reported from Sonapur revenue circle of Kamrup (Metro) district, taking the flood-induced death toll in the State to 85.
Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati has again issued a red alert of heavy rainfall till Wednesday for the Assam and Meghalaya region that may worsen the flood situation.
According to the ASDMA, altogether 24,30,502 people have been affected by floods in 2,254 villages under 70 revenue circles in 24 districts of the state. Flood waters also submerged 1,09,600 hectares of cropland.
The Brahmaputra in Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Sonitpur, Goalpara and Dhubri, Dhansiri in Golaghat, Jia Bharali in Sonitpur, Kopili in Nagaon, Beki in Barpeta and Kushiyara in Karimganj districts were flowing above the danger level.
Goalpara was the worst-hit district with more than 4.59 lakh people suffering. Among the flood-affected people, altogether 48,197 are taking shelter in 468 relief camps across the State.
Flood waters have damaged a number of embankments in Udalguri and Bongaigaon district, besides a number of roads in Goalpara, Kokrajhar and Bongaigaon districts in the past 24 hours. Moreover, a number of incidents of flood-triggered erosion have also been reported from Majuli, Baksa, Sonitpur and Udalguri districts.
Major portions of Kaziranga National Park and Orang National Park are still under water affecting a number of forest camps. In Kaziranga, floods have claimed lives of 113 animals so far.
