Royal Challengers Bangalore will take on Mumbai Indians at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai at 3.30 pm, while UP Warriorz will lock horns with Delhi Capitals at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai at 7.30 pm today in their Women’s Premier League Cricket matches.
Yesterday, UP Warriorz defeated Gujarat Giants (GG) by 3 wickets at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai to earn the final playoff spot. Batting first, Gujarat set a target of 179 runs that UP Warriorz chased down in 19.5 overs.
In another match, Delhi Capitals handed a crushing defeat to Mumbai Indians (MI) at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. DC had won the toss and asked Mumbai to bat first. Mumbai Indians could score only 109 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Delhi Capitals won the match in 9 overs for the loss of just one wicket.
After two weeks of thrilling cricketing action, the race toward the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL) trophy has narrowed down to three teams, namely Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, and UP Warriorz. Mumbai Indians were the first team to qualify for the playoffs while Delhi Capitals was the second. UP Warriorz sealed the final playoff spot yesterday.
It is the end of the road in this tournament for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Gujarat Giants (GG). RCB is in the fourth position with two wins and five losses in seven matches and a total of four points. GG is at the bottom of the table with two wins, six losses in eight games, and a finish with four points as well. Though RCB has a game against Mumbai Indians left, winning it would not make a difference for the side as they will finish with six points, still two short of the third-placed UP.
The table topper at the end of the league stage will earn direct qualification to the final, to be held on March 26. The eliminator to decide the second finalist will be held on March 24.
