Weightlifter Jeremy Lalrinnunga lifted a total of 160kg in the clean and jerk segment to finish with a grand total of 300kg, which is also a new CWG record. This is India’s second gold medal of the campaign after ace lifter Mirabai Chanu kept her promise and delivered a gold on Saturday. Jeremy created a new Commonwealth Games record in the snatch event, by picking up 140 kg.
Meanwhile, at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, India trounced Pakistan by 8 wickets to keep its hopes alive in the women’s cricket event. Chasing a target of 100 runs, in a rain truncated match of 18 overs, Indian eves reached the target in 11. 4 overs. Smriti Mandhana top scored with 63 runs to guide India to a comfortable victory.
Earlier, Indian boxer Nikhat Zareen stormed into the quarterfinals of the women’s 50kg event while the Indian men’s table tennis team reached the semis after Jeremy Lalrinnunga won India’s 2nd gold in CWG games.

However, India’s Shiva Thapa lost to Reece Lynch of Scotland 1-4 in Men’s Boxing Light Welter weight category. Thapa missed out on the win by a split decision.
Indian men’s table tennis team continued a successful defense of their title as they thrashed Bangladesh 3-0 to enter the semi-finals.
India will face South Africa in the quarter-finals of the mixed team events in badminton.
In Hockey, Indian men’s team started off brilliantly against Ghana, scoring three goals in the first half of the match. Abhishek opened the accout for India through a penalty corner in the very first minute of the game .Later team extended their lead when Hamrnapreet Singh scores tthe second goal in 14th minutes of the play. Samsher scored the third goal.
President Droupadi Murmu has congratulated Jeremy Lalrinnunga for winning gold in Weightlifting at Commonwealth Games. In a tweet, Ms Murmu said, his self-belief despite an injury during the event enabled him to create history and inspire millions. She said, Jeremy Lalrinnunga’s podium finish has filled Indians with pride. The President wished him more such moments of glory.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Jeremy Lalrinnunga on winning the Gold medal in his very first Commonwealth Games and setting a phenomenal Commonwealth Games record as well. In a tweet, Mr. Modi said, Our Yuva Shakti is creating history. He said, at a young age Jeremy has brought immense pride and glory. The Prime Minister conveyed best wishes to him for his future endeavours.
Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur has congratulated Jeremy Lalrinnunga on winning the Gold medal at Birmingham Commonwealth Games in the weightlifting 67kg category. In a tweet, Mr. Thakur said, Jeremy’s Gold in Men’s 67kg weightlifting in CWG 2022 is a perfect example of the growth of an athlete from Khelo India to the TOPS core group. The Minister said, Jeremy, has broken the Games record too. He said India is proud of him.
