Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that the Central Government is always committed to protect the interest of farmers and is always open for discussions for farmers’ welfare. Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of State for Commerce Som Prakash met with the representatives of Farmers Organizations of Punjab yesterday at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.
The Ministers reiterated the fact to the representatives of the Farmers’ Unions that the farming community throughout the nation will benefit immensely from the Farm Reform Acts. During the talks that were held in a cordial atmosphere various issues related to Farm Reform Acts were discussed at length.
Agriculture Minister Mr Tomar emphasized that the government is fully committed towards the welfare of farmers and development of agriculture is always a priority for Government of India. During the deliberations, the Agriculture Minister also proposed to constitute an expert committee to put forth the issues of farmers so as to resolve them with mutual consent but the representative of the Farmers Union suggested that all the representatives will attend further round of discussions with the Government to resolve the matter amicably.
During the interaction, it has been suggested by the Government to the representatives of Farmers’ Union to identify the specific issues related to Farm Reform Acts and share with the government today for consideration which will be discussed during the fourth round of meeting to be held on Thursday.
Talking to reporters after the meeting in New Delhi, Mr Tomar said that the government has appealed to the farmers to suspend the protests and come for talks. He said, however, the decision depends on farmers and their Unions. The Agriculture Minister said that this was the third round of talks with farmers and the meeting was very cordial. He also informed that the fourth round of talks will be held on Thursday.
